Savage Assassins 2013: Edwin Encarnacion

by Stephen E. W. Savage

MLB Prayerlist 2013 begins with my current 40 Keepers, which is also the max roster size for 2013,  in Baseball Stars League.

Baseball Stars is a private Head-to-Head 12-team league on ESPN.  2013 will be my 3rd year in this league.  It does not count toward the Uber Rankings on ESPN.  I finished 7th in 2012, microscopic percentage points out of the 6-team playoffs "for the money", after making the playoffs and finishing 3rd in 2011.   2012 was a much-improved league year and the competition was intense and it was my intent during the year to help strengthen other teams because I like to play against the best!  Baseball Stars league is the best fantasy baseball league i have ever played in.

In 2013, however, I will consider my efforts to strengthen the league in 2012 a success and will focus on winning it all.

The current 40 players I have identified as Keepers, may or may not end up being my final 40 come February and the official beginning of Baseball Stars 2013.  As with MLB team owners we can make offseason waiver acquisitions and trades with other owners in the league.

Some of the players I choose are minor league prospects or still have their rookie status: Tyler Austin, Avisail Garcia, Mike Olt, Travis d'Arnaud, Bryce Brentz, Wilmer Flores.

"Mike Napoli has enjoyed two successful seasons with the Texas Rangers in 2011 and 2012, and had the Rangers won the 2011 World Series, Napoli would have certainly been named the first World Series MVP in Rangers history.
Now in November 2012, it looks like Napoli's time as a Ranger is over, as the Rangers declined to make Napoli a qualifying offer before Napoli hit the free agent market...."Mike Napoli's Time As a Ranger Up?

Some rival officials expected the Rangers to make Napoli a one-year qualifying offer and set themselves up for draft pick compensation.  but that did not happen. the Rangers declined to make a qualifying offer to Napoli, who played for $9.4 million in 2012, after a magical second half leading to his career year in 2011.*

The Rangers will not make a qualifying offer to impending free agent Mike Napoli.
The Rangers have interest in re-signing Napoli, but weren't comfortable making him the one-year, $13.3 million qualifying offer. The club will not receive draft pick compensation if he signs with another team. Nov 2 - 4:08 PM
